Thought CAPTION was particularly good this year. A jam-packed schedule (too jam-packed at moments, particularly today, but we survived some stressful moments nevertheless) and some really interesting talks and discussions. Special mention to Rian Hughes, who was extremely good value as a guest - he was on three items including his own talk on his recent work, and was sociable, genial, knowledgeable, and seemed like he was having fun to boot.
Not that we didn't do extremely well for guests and visitors and members overall - Nick Abadzis fitted in a lightning appearance and did double-duty on the DFC and Deadline panels, Matt Brooker broke his normal rule and appeared on the Deadline panel too (furnishing us with some belly-laugh anecdotes in the process), old pals reappeared (Chris Butler, Darryl Cunningham, Mooncat & family, Penny and Jason & family).
Favourite moments? The DFC panel I ran on Saturday was very well-attended and well-received, with lots of additional input from audience members who were also involved in the magazine. The CAPTION Timeline that a few of us helped to put together looked great once it was up, and I've made sure to file it all away neatly during the take-down so that maybe, just maybe, we can put it up again somewhere else sometime, bringing to life the huge achievements and fun times of the past umpty-ump years. Going to restaurants and getting to know Sarah McIntyre, Bridget, Rian Hughes, and catching up with Anna Mondo and Woodrow. Eating brazilian! meat! feast! again so soon after the last time. A whole lot of it, in short.
It did rain, for the first time in quite a few years. Oh well.
