Update on [info]andypop
Andy died this morning; he was pronounced legally dead at 10:15 am.

Although yesterday's story was relatively optimistic (if very heavily qualified), unfortunately his condition deteriorated during the night and the family were called to the ITU (Intensive Care Unit) at about 5:30 am, after which it was just a matter of time.

Andy would have wanted to help other people live after his death, and the family have been very sensitively taken through the relevant decisions for organ donation; everyone present was absolutely firm on that being the right thing to do.

The funeral is not likely to be until perhaps ten days time from now, because of the necessary bureaucracy of coroners report and so forth. There are still decisions to be made about the size of the funeral, as you can imagine; I'm sure lots of people will want to be there or to send a message, and I'll carry on announcing things about that in this journal, including if there are space difficulties or anything.

There will also be a celebration of Andy's life, some time after the funeral. This will be an occasion where we'll be able to have more people and to spend more time remembering Andy: through music, art, comics, spoken and written tributes, poems.

So many thanks and so much love goes out to the people who have been reading and commenting, visiting the hospital, ringing, thinking about the family and the people at the hospital, and most of all thinking about Andy. I have printed out Sophie's post and comments to take to the hospital, and Helen & Geoff really appreciated them all.

I'm really sorry. I just clicked onto here to check the address to send a card to (saying 'Thanks for the bombay mix'). I hope Andy would have got the reference. We crossed paths a few times, but I didn't really know him at all. But upon hearing the news from Pete Ashton's blog, he's never been too far from my thoughts.

My condolences,
M.Lawrenson

I remember one of our friends in the hospital saying to me, "Tracy, there are worse things than death." He said this while we waited, like you all have been, through the long hours watching the machines, not knowing what the outcome would be. At the time, it hurt to hear that. But it has been going through my mind while reading about Andy. The good ones always seem to go young. My Logan was only 24 and suffered pretty much the same injuries as Andy. There are worse things than death and thankfully none of us have to witness those.

My love infinite goes out to you all. The coming months are going to be hard, but you can all get through them. I'm still here, sometimes amazingly, but one second after another, one foot in front of the other, one breathe followed by another. Time is our friend now.

*love to all*

You and Andy together and separately seriously altered (for the better!) the direction of my own life... he will be missed in many, many places. I wish I could do something to help you deal now; your work in keeping so many of Andy's friends and fans up to date on this awful situation must be taking a lot of energy, still. It is appreciated.

I didn't know Andy, and I don't really know you well either, but I've been following this on friends' journals and hoping for the miracle along with you all.

So sorry that it didn't come, and I gather I missed a really great guy.

This is very strange. I didn't actually know Andy per se, but from seeing a picture on [info]mzdt's journal, I realise I met him a few times via London events and people.

It is quite stupidly sad. My thoughts are with you, his friends and his family.

xx

I'm so sorry to everyone close to Andy. After hearing the news this morning, I started thinking about how Andy affected my life and probably so many others. After moving to London from America, he was the first person to be truly welcoming and sweet to me and this has reverberated on to other good friendships. To give someone renewed faith in kindness and humanity in this world is a gift. He will be missed.

Just heard... sorry is pretty much the only word to say. Rotten, rotten business. Please pass on my condolences to friends and family. I'll have a drink to his memory this evening; I'm sure I won't be the only one.

Thanks for keeping everyone up to date, Jenni. Look after yourself. We're all thinking about you.
